Hope you enjoy my very latest song and video.i wrote and recorded the song last week it’s called “Without You Now”.I produced the video myself.i think it is my best song and video to date.I was motivated to write this song when I heard last week about the passing of a dear friend and ex colleague.Time is short and we never know what’s around the corner.I will kiss my friend.I hope the video is a nice tribute to him.

My new song is called “Fly Away”

This is my attempt at doing a blog because I understand blogging is popular but I am yet to be convinced why!However I hope it doesn’t put you off reading .I will try to let you know about my new song.I wrote this song over the bank holiday weekend in May 2018-The second bank holiday weekend-after watching Liverpool F.C. lose the European champions league final versus Real Madrid in Kiev Ukraine.

I guess as I support Liverpool I wanted to “Fly Away” from reality as I was disappointed that my team lost.However I turned my despair into creativity and picked up my guitar and a chord sequence I liked came out of the musical ether.I used the chord sequence to inspire some lyrics.As I was feeling sad but also had hope in my heart I wanted a lyric about well life itself and how you can seize the day whatever knocks you get.

I think I can summarise my song by saying it’s an acoustic original written recorded played on and produced by my good self in Liverpool.Simple song inspired by Crosby Stills Nash and the Eagles.

So after despair of my team Liverpool losing a final I wrote a song about hope freedom and finding happiness.

Why bother making music?

I live to make music.I have to write songs.My mental health depends on it.Without music I think I would be the most unhappy person on the planet.So I must make music.My life depends on it.

Some folk like my music.That feels good!I think when somebody likes my songs it is a nice feeling like an endorphin boost even!However music is an individual choice and I certainly don’t expect all folk to like my songs.

Why do I give away my new album?Quite simply I love music and want to share my creations with other people.I do not go into the recording studio and hire expensive producers and engineers-I do it all by myself here at home in a very simple home recording set up.My music is simple.I like it that way.I don’t think people should pay for it because I get my rewards by people is you out there simply taking the time to listen and feedback to me what you think.

Songwriting.

I like both Acoustic and Electric music to listen too.By Electric I mean amplified music.I love Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple for example.My main interest is Acoustic music though.I most enjoy playing the Acoustic guitar,and writing songs on my acoustic guitar.My main musical tastes now revolve around acoustic music.I find it very enjoyable to pick up a guitar and strum away.It is even better when a song comes out!

As for songwriting,I always start out trying to find a sequence of chords and sounds that have harmony together.I am not ready to write a song until I am satisfied about the chord changes I will be making in the song.I also have to have the guitar chords into the shape of a three to four minute song,ie with a beginning and a middle and an ending.Only then can I begin to write the words.Usually I can write the chords in 2 hours and the words in about 1 hour.Add another 2 hours for recording and mixing and in about 5 hours I can have a finished 4 track demo recording of a new song.

I am not saying this is the right way or the best way only it is MY way and the method I am most comfortable with as a songwriter .

Songwriting is the thing in life I enjoy the most outside of my family.I have such a great sense of satisfaction when a song is completed and the feedback starts to come in.I hope you enjoy my songs too and will give me some feedback as to what you think.

My best song sounds even better

I wrote a song earlier this year which I am very proud of.Its called “Love The One You Love”.I had a simple idea that too many people are not giving 100 per cent to their loved one...and then a relationship can deteriorate .Just try your best to live the one you love was the idea.(easier said than done I know!)

Well this song went on Reverbnation and sound loud and Instagram and Youtube and Twitter...all the usual social media places.I paid particular attention to the production of the song.Their is a website called Landr...for a small fee this website software will polish up the recording to studio standard.I have only one microphone and use audacity software and a simple home recording set up so using Landr was the way to go for me.The best Landr can do is 25 bit Wav (technical I know)...but this I didn’t choose initially.However the other day I chose the best Landr studio sound option and the result is impressive...much cleaner sound...take a listen I think you will be impressed...I certainly am...

Do you still enjoy YouTube?

I have created a video channel on YouTube.Yes it has taken me a while to finally get into this platform with my original acoustic music,but I finally made it.

My channel is dedicated to my own compositions.I put the videos together through a website called “Rotor”.It is useful and helpful as I do not have any great video making gear,and I don’t like being in my own videos...yes that’s not too good for a musician is it I guess but I dislike being on video...but Rotor do a great job of using models and actors and great scenes ,which are then put together by software,and I choose the pieces of video.

The end result is very good.I have about 10 videos now on my YouTube channel.It is possible to subscribe to my channel and then you get notifications whenever I put a new video on there.Heres a link if you are interested in seeing my music videos

What do you think of my Videos?

I enjoy writing songs.For three years now I have been writing and home recording acoustic songs.Really makes me happy to complete a new song and to hear from others that they like my music.Also it is very therapeutic for me as I have an ongoing issue with depression .Music is my best medicine.

However,I realised that music videos exist!I needed to get on that bandwagon and quickly.So I thought about what type of music videos I would like to make to go with my acoustic songs.Then I realised I do not actually want to be in my videos ..not a good start I guess!...But it makes it easier to do a video ...without me having to be in it!

So I looked around and I found a website called Rotor.This website is a lot of fun.i found I could mix and match different stock video clips and produce a music video which suited the atmosphere of my song.Rotor has many clips of video from which I as a musician can put together a kind of montage of clips.

For example my song called “Somewhere By The Sea”,I found video clips of..you guessed it..the sea!...but they are very very interesting clips and quite lovely when put together using the Rotor software.

I simply MUST make music

Why I simply MUST make music?

Well quite simply it is my number 1 passion in life...Music...pure and simple.(family excepted of course!)

I will write a song and suddenly the world feels a better place.Therapy if you like.Writing and recording a new song gives me so much joy.Its even better when other people like my songs.I would still do it if other people didn’t like my songs...but there is nothing better than listener feedback especially when it’s positive!...All feedback is important,but what’s most important is that I can express myself through my songs and see them as meSning something to ME.I write a song I would like to listen too that’s what I always try to do especially on my very latest album called “Shades Of Green”,a 9 track album now available as a free download at this link

The Moon And Love

I just wanted to share with you my song called “Cry The Moon”

It is a song I am proud of.The lyrics are abstract in some ways but can be interpreted by the listener.I particularly like my guitar work in this song all done on an acoustic guitar.

My best song yet?

As a songwriter I get different types of feedback about my music.It is quite hard to know which is my best song .The feedback carries a lot of weight for me...it is real active listeners after all...but I guess it’s better to measure popularity because it is more quantifiable.

In terms of popularity a song of mine ...available at my website as a Free download...is called “funny peculiar” and it has received a lot of streaming plays.Another song of mine is called “The sun will always shine on you” and this also gets more plays and downloads than other songs...

Me?...well the song I think I am most proud of to date of my own songs is called “Love The One You Love”

My brand new acoustic song for a happy Friday!

Thought you might like to be the first to hear my brand new acousticsong.I wrote it and recorded it on Thursday 26th April ,and it took me about 7 hours to complete .I sing and play guitars on the song,and it’s mixed on my home studio set up here on 4 tracks using just one microphone,at my flat in Southport near Liverpool .The song is about wanting to change your life.For me the sea has always been the place to be.Thats why I live very close to the Irish Sea....although if you know Southport you would know the beach is up to 3 km wide and the sea is far away!

I Wrote the song at home thinking about how we forget sometimes to appreciate what we have in life...and forget to show love even at times to the person we most love....so I wrote this song about that...it is important to simply Love The One You Love...nobody else...just the person you pledge your love to...in my case Tania my lovely wife.(Photo below so you can see I got VERY lucky)
